Alienware M15x: Disabled NVIDIA PowerMizer
You’re might already know, By default, you cannot disable Nvidia PowerMizer on the Alienware m15x 8800m GTX GPU. When setting PowerMizer off, the GPU is downclocked 383/300 core/memory, this means you have only a half power of the systems. So in order to make the m15x has a great feature, you need to setting the Nvidia PowerMizer to be dynamically adjusts GPU speeds all the way from 200/100 to 500/800 (max).
For this job, you can use the Nvidia Drivers v165.32 to fix it. Here’s the way you can follow. However, as it will changes the machine registry, you need to be careful to do:
- Click Start and hit Run
- Type regedit to open the registry editor
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video.
- Right click the Video folder and Find PerfLevelSrc.
- Double click PerfLevelSrc and change the value from 3333 to 2222.
This will force PowerMizer to run the GPU with full speed at 500/800.
After reboot m15x machine, now this computer has PowerMizer enable the GPU. And it will able to run full speed. Might you see the m15GPU still has the downclocks (383/300) with PowerMizer off, just leave it on.
