HP Pavilion DV6000: Could not find the MEDIA device for the driver
If you has just downgrade your HP Pavilion DV6000 OS from Microsoft Windows Vista to Windows XP and found that audio driver didn’t work, You may need some simple step below. Actually, my friend has asked tech support to solve this problem, Unfortunately, they couldn’t help.
My friend told me that his audio driver is Conexant High Definition Audio Driver, but when he tried to install driver, error report appears, “Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for the driver”. My friend told me that most recent drivers for audio are corrupt. To make it works, YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE OLDER DRIVER VERSION (previous column choose version). Evemthough it was outdated driver, it WORKS… enjoy audio driver on Pavilion DV6000.

i have the exact same problem on my Gateway FX laptop. My audio will continue to work, although if I try to connect to a program such as Ventrilo, it will say say that the audio device could not be found. So far i’ve simply restarted my computer and it seems to work, but a full power down and power up will not fix the problem. So i’m going to revert to an older driver, or see if there’s an updated driver out there.

I’m having the same problem with one our student’s HP Pavilion dv6605us notebook. No yellow question marks in Device Manager. And when I download the audio driver straight from HP… I get the could not find the device for the driver error. Ugg

Even I had the same problem when I installed XP-sp3 on my compaq CQ-60 laptop.
My problem got solved quite easily.. all i did was..
go to device manager->Sound, video and game controllers ->Conexant High Definition SmartAudio221(varies depending on model) ..
choose update driver.. a wizard opens
choose .. install software automatically
…
that was it.. and my windows sound has come back…
Cheers!!
