HP Mini 2133: Fix Slow on Xubuntu
Although a lot of users are able install Xubuntu 8.10 on HP 2133 Mininote, but most of them get device run too slow on gnome. So, here is another installation way for those who want to fresh install Xubuntu 8.10.on Mini-Note HP 2133. Basically installation method is the same as in Ubuntu 8.10, but it has little difference.
- Download the Xubuntu 8.10 ISO (standard desktop one)
- Create a bootable USB pen drive if you don’t have an external CD drive to plug into HP 2133 Mini-Note.
- In case you’ve got a booting problem you can fix it by renaming the folder “ISOLINUX” to “SYSLINUX” on the pen drive.
- Edit the ‘Install Xubuntu’ line by pressing tab and adding “xforcevesa” before the last ‘–’. This is useful to allow Xubuntu to install in safe graphics mode.
- Now you should meet installation procedures as usual, just follow it.
Upon first boot, you might have notice that wireless works out of the box and the screen resolution is wrong. That’s okay, you can ignore it. Now you need to download the VIA graphics driver, the xorg.conf file and the readme file. All you can get here.. Just make sure after following the steps on the readme file about installing the drivers, copy the supplied xorg.conf file over before restarting,
The last steps to fix the screen resolution problem is edit the xorf.conf file and replace 1280×720 to1280×768. After did full reboot you should now have a working Xubuntu system on the 2133 with improvement in speed compared Gnome in Ubuntu 8.10.
