Installing VMWare into Dell Studio XPS 1640
The user of Dell Studio XPS 1640 with Vista 64bit OS installed wants to use multiple virtual systems with VMWare on it. As recommended, he’s then activated the VT in the BIOS. But he’s found the VMWare (Workstation 6.5.2) does not recognize the VT. While starting accessed a 64bit VMWare it gives an error and seems like it’s impossible to install a 64bit OS on XPS 1640 system. Some other who have the same XPS 1640 laptop with Vista 64bit OS installed and VMWare 6.5.2 was tried to make the BIOS enable but the problem still appears.
The first thing you can try to do in order to fix the VMWare problem with VT at Dell Studio XPS 1640 is installing Windows 7 RC 64 bit. You can select 2 CPU in VMWare and let it run in automatic mode in the VM settings.
If the problem still comes on your XPS 1640, you can try to update BIOS from A05 to A06. This way will turned the VT off so you are able to re-enabled and booted then tried to start the 64 bit OS. This will gripped about VT not being on. And also you can change the VT while booting, power cycled and it should works again.
