Install Windows Xp on Dell Inspiron 1420 Part 2
Below some driver required for downgrading your OS in Dell Inspiron 1420. Download all of drivers below and install to your computer.
a. Intel Mobile Chipset
b. Ricoh Inspiron 1420 Driver
c. Broadcom Ethernet LAn Card Driver
d. Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Driver
e. Bluetooth Driver
f. Inspiron 1420 Video Graphics: NVidia 8400GS Driver
g. Touchpad Inspiron Driver
h. Inspiron 1420 Webcam Driver
i. Audio Sound: Sigmatel Driver
Restart computer, you may found some problem occur, Go to Device Manager and you’ll get error such as some PCI hardware not work. Right click and uninstall it. Scan it for hardware changes and your audio and modem driver will be detected. You may still find error that the sound still not work, This is the tricks “YOU ONLY JUST REINSTALL SIGMATEL” Driver.
Download Modem Driver for Inspiron 1420 Notebooks.
Note: Your Sound Driver may not work when you’re using dial-up connection.

Hey Admin,
I just did SATA driver slipstreaming as in article part1 with my Win XP PRO SP2 using nLite. additionally, I removed the language packs, My Briefcase, & some games from a XP to save some space. Then burned the Bootable CD & using it started setup of XP. but after the first reboot, it gave me error like some file (forgot the name) in the I386 folder is missing & setup can’t continue & it rebooted.
Please help.
PS : well i treid to install XP on the D drive with Vista still on the C drive. i formatted the D drive with quick NTFS.

This is probably an issue that came up while the disk was being burned, but I”m getting an error that states, “The file iaStor.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue” followed by a reboot during the installation process. Is this a common proble or should I just grab another CD and try again?

You should also recommend upgrading the bios to A10 and installing the GM965 intel drivers ..(i did that as the geforce ones wouldn’t update and no VGA device would be found ..

If you already install XP to inspiron 1420, and already install all driver that suggested from this site, and still have a problem, means that you install XP SP3. means that the suggestion is only for XP SP2.
the audio will not work. and only state PCI at device manager. for this problem, download ftp://ftp.dell.com/audio/R108276.EXE
and install. it will fix your problem.
But if you want the full driver list for installing XP to dell inspiron 1420, please download the driver hereunder. (please install as the number)

every body who wants to downgrade from vista to xp, you actually dun have to do that Nlite shit things. It is jus wasting your times. You just have to change the hard disk type at the bios setting. Once you’ve done that, you can just simply install xp on your dell 1420 as usual. hope this can help tq. I’m from malaysia =)
