Okay – if you have Vista installed you need to
a) go into BIOS Setup (F2) after turning on the computer
– change the SATA access mode from AHCD to ATA
b) boot from your XP installation disc
- if you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) after it has loaded all the
drivers during setup, this is because you have not done a) __OR__ you
have previously tried to install and confused XP install. You then neeed
to boot a Rescue CD (Linux LiveCD or other ones) and delete all the
partitions on the hard drive (I left the small Dell restore point partition)
c) install XP as normal
d) now right click on “My Computer” and select Properties –> Hardware –>
Device Manager
– you will see all the unknown devices that you need to download from
http://dellstudio.jeroenzelle.nl/
– basically download all the files, then one by one run them – they will usually
extract the files to somewhere.. then run a special set-up program
– do all the files — some will install — so will at least extract the files
with the drivers to the harddrive somewhere (I suggest when it prompts
for a directory e.g c:/dell/drives/R1234567 you instead call it
c:/dell/drivers/R123456-WirelessCard)
e) Go back to the Device Manager — see if there is any “?” devices left in
the [+] ? Other Devices section — go to each of them and DELETE them
(select them an press delete). You should have none-left
f) now reboot the computer
g) you will again be prompted for New Hardware Dialog — instead of
selecting Install the software automatically — use
(*) Install from a list or specified location (Advanced)
== Next > ==
[x] Include location in the search
[ C:\dell\drivers\R??????-?????? ]
— by naming the directories as you make them this will make things a
lot less hit and miss ie “Network Device” just choose the directory
for Broadcomm Card or Wireless card etc
— most of the Unknown System Device are from the Intel motherboard
drivers (“Intel Chipset 965M Drivers/”)

If the drivers from that list could be released again, that would really make alot of people grateful. If anything, just be nice enough to upload them to megaupload, free to upload, and put the link to download as a response here. Thanks if anyone does.
