How To Install XP into Dell Latitude E6400
Just bought Dell Latitude E6400, someone getting that laptop comes with Windows Vista Home Basic installed. As he’s unfamiliar with Vista then he want to install Windows XP SP2 on E6400. So he needs to know what he must prepare before installing XP in E6400.
Actually there is not too much prepare you should made before installing XP in E6400, however that’s worth to know it. Here are some of them:
- Better make notes of each step you take for later reference.
- Boot and inspect your new E6400 to learn it basic make-up including main devices in Device Manager.
- Take a look BIOS configuration over so you have an idea of its significant settings (F2 to invoke during boot).
- Install a new HDD and keep your shipped drive as is.
- Start installing XP and see how it goes and learn any tricks, and then start over as long as it takes.
- Generally the XP install requires a SATA driver for getting E6400 machine up and running that is not on the XP disc.
- As for the Intel Matrix Storage SATA driver, it’s about the only driver on dell.com that extracts and does NOT auto install. So, you can easily extract it and put it on the required media ready for the install process… then point to it when required.
- Download all other drivers/apps require from dell.com when your XP come without any other drivers. You can get it by setup an account first, enter your E6400 tag id, find its resources/downloads, select your OS, and you’re ready to download the drivers.
