here’s your fix…driverguide.com. setup an account and get conexant universal device driver. version 2.1.8.0. It’s from 2002. I don’t remember the exact filename but choose the one with the most downloads. Once you install this, your networking will function. Do windows update; custom- not express and select the 4 hardware updates on the left. Fixes the processor, audio, modem and touchpad. Still yet to find VIDEO DRIVERS. IF YOU FIND ONE, PLS POST. IT’S A NVIDIA GEFORCE 8200M G.
Good luck all!! down with vista…..

September 21st, 2008 00:30
Mark,
I can’t find the conexant universal device driver, version 2.1.8.0. that you mentioned at driverguide. Can you post again and be more specific? I need those other devices, etc. The audio device and modem device on high definition audio bus.

I used the NVIDIA driver for an HP G60-120US and it mostly worked. The version that worked for me was 15.24.
**You MUST do the following to get the video driver to install**
1. Extract and install the setup file like normal, the video driver will probably not install correctly
2. Go to the Device Manager, right click “Video Controller (VGA Compatible)” and click “Update Driver…”
3. Choose to install the driver Manually, then choose to install from a list or specific location.
4. Choose “Don’t Search, I will choose the driver to install”, then click Display Adapters and Next
5. Click “Have Disk…” and browse to where the drivers were extracted to (C:\NVIDIA\nForceWin2k\15.24\IS\Display by default), then click OK.
6. Scroll down the list and choose “NVIDIA GeForce 8200″ (there might be two of them, just pick the first one) and click Next.
7. Let the installation complete, restart your computer, and viola, you have video drivers!

Yo man, I bought CQ50- 106CA, Downgraded to vista and holy shit this is pissing me off.
I managed to find some drivers for it (not thanks to the stupid hp site that doesnt provide any for XP), but not the video card one, however I will try Witty’s and Ersin’s solutions right now and post back here
Also does anyone know where I can get a Audio and Modem Devices on High Definition Audio Bus Drives? Those and the VGA controller are the only ones I’m missing.
P.S. All the other drivers (such as processor and computer) are back from 2001, and I’m sure moer recent versions excist. Anyone care to link me a few?
Thanks in advance and you can always write to Erchov@hotmail.com to check up on the progress, and remind me to post here cause I might forgte.

I downgraded to XP a couple days ago and I’m so happy. I went from stuttering videos and audio to super fast. I tried to make Vista work….took all the bells and whistles off and still had problems with the systeim getting bogged down and all I was using it for was the internet. I am very happy now with XP. No probs now. Unfortunately, even with all of the suggestions on here…getting all of the drivers to work was painful.

This should be a workable Chipset, install and on reboot select/choose ONLY drivers_no mediashield:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_730a_710a_winxp_18.11.html
After installing you may have to manually update Video adpter and Ethernet from Device Manager..such as”

Right click, Update Driver
Say “no, not at this time” for connecting to Windows Update
Select> Install from a list or specific location
Select> Don’t search I will choose the driver to install
In the list of common hardware types, choose “show all”
Remove the check from “Show Compatible Hardware” and click on “Have Disk”
Next…browse to C:\Nvidia\…..

MS UAA(required with a reboot before Conexant):
http://www.mediafire.com/?4ben9zlesng
Conexant SmartAudio 221:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dg0cmmkm4y4
Unzip to a folder..make note of location.
From Device Manager, right click “Audio Device on High Def Bus”,choose Update driver,
No to connect,
Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don’t Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select ‘Show All Devices’
Remove the check from “Show Compatible Hardware” and click on “Have Disk”.
Next…browse to the unzipped folder and choose the “WiSVHe5.inf”.
Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.

on a side note the 5006 driver for the wireless works.
this guide helped me get the audio working, though I had to do it to BOTH of the unidentified high def audio icons and reboot.
It was a MAJOR pain, but I got it and I wont be using Vista.. because it is absolute garbage.. XP runs SO MUCH FASTER and smoother.. If I wanted bouncy and gadgets/widgets.. Id be running MAC OS!

January 5th, 2009 04:18
I installed XP on my cq50-115nr, I used the NVIDIA NFORCE Chipset 730a or 710a
as referenced by cheryl at the top, that gave me ethernet. then i did the windows update and only installed the 4 updates for hardware, that fixed the sound, and amd processor drivers. I used the atheros driver from the HP website for the laptop, and just clicked the continue installation when it warned that it wasnt made for this version etc. I also used the video driver referenced by cheryl above and extracted it to the hard disk then manually installed the driver by selecting the have disk and browsing to where i extracted and then selecting the geforce 8200 from the list. Good Luck everyone and Happy New Year.

I found this site while stumbling around trying to fix my laptop and all I can say is WOW! This got everything to work, with the exception of the wifi:) Anybody know how to get the OS to recognize the wifi? I ran the drivers, both the Broadcom ones and the other one and it just doesn’t show up in my network connections.
